Steve Greenlee is a professor of the practice of journalism and the director of BU’s Newsroom Initiative, which he launched in 2025. He is the former executive editor of the Portland Press Herald in Maine, where he led the paper to major national awards and recognition that included the paper’s first Pulitzer Prize finalist for a series he directed on climate change. During his 12 years in Portland, he oversaw more than 100 journalists across multiple newsrooms, directed the newsroom’s digital transformation and helped lead the company through a transition to nonprofit ownership. He is also a former longtime editor at The Boston Globe with 35 years of experience in New England newsrooms.
Jason Tuohey, Director of Audience Engagement of the Local News Network at Boston University.
Jason Tuohey is an executive-level editor who has held leadership positions at The Boston Globe, Yahoo News, and Britannica. His areas of specialty include audience growth and digital engagement, live news coverage, and the planning and oversight of major projects. In 2011 he launched the Globe’s flagship website, BostonGlobe.com. He has received numerous awards over the course of his career, including sharing in a 2014 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings and the prestigious Online Journalism Award for general excellence in 2022. Jason is based in Greater Boston.
Lena Sheehan, Newsroom Program and Grants Initiative Manager at Boston University
Lena Sheehan is an experienced photo and video editor who has worked as a producer for NOVA, the History Channel and American Experience. She has been involved in the Local News Network since its inception – overseeing the annual conferences and managing media and websites. She also lectures at COM, teaching “Visuals for the Newsroom” class.
